The Deccan Odyssey — a joint venture of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and the Ministry of Railways (IRCTC) — was launched in 2004 as a rolling tribute to the royal carriages of the Maratha kings. Its 21 coaches, of which 11 are passenger accommodation, carry guests in four cabin classes — Standard Cabin, Deluxe Cabin, Suite and the Presidential Suite — each with en-suite bathrooms, personal climate control and dedicated butler service. Onboard amenities include two multi-cuisine restaurants, a lounge bar, a conference car, a mini-gymnasium and a spa car, with Wi-Fi and a library for quiet hours. Six signature 07 night / 08 day journeys radiate from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai: the Maharashtra Splendour and Maharashtra Wild Trail loops of the state's caves, vineyards and wildlife; the Indian Odyssey and Indian Sojourn linking Mumbai with Delhi via the Golden Triangle; and the Cultural Odyssey and Heritage Odyssey exploring North India's temples and palaces. The season runs October to March, with pre-scheduled departures and limited cabins per run.
