Where the Arabian Sea Meets 450 Years of Portugal
Goa is India's smallest state but its richest in contrasts. In the south, the cobblestone lanes of Old Goa shelter UNESCO World Heritage churches built by the Portuguese in the 16th century — the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, and the ornate Church of St. Francis of Assisi. In Fontainhas, Panaji's Latin Quarter, pastel-coloured houses with wrought-iron balconies line streets where Portuguese is still spoken. Drive north and the mood shifts entirely — the golden sands of Calangute, Baga, and Anjuna buzz with beach shacks, live music, and Saturday night markets. Inland, the four-tiered Dudhsagar Waterfalls cascade 310 metres through the Western Ghats, and spice plantations fill the air with cardamom and vanilla. Five days barely scratches the surface — but it's enough to understand why people never leave.

- Morning: Fly from Delhi to Goa's Dabolim or Mopa Airport — about 2.5 hours. Meet your driver and transfer to a beachside hotel in South Goa.
- Afternoon: After freshening up, drive to Fontainhas — Panaji's Latin Quarter, the oldest surviving Portuguese precinct in Asia. Walk the narrow lanes where pastel-coloured houses with wrought-iron balconies lean over the street. Visit the 16th-century Church of St. Sebastian and the ancient chapel with its Inquisition-era art.
- Evening: Drive to Miramar Beach for sunset — where the Mandovi River meets the Arabian Sea. Continue to a beach shack for fresh pomfret recheado and feni as the sky turns orange.
- Morning: Drive to Old Goa (Velha Goa) — the former Portuguese capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the only basilica in India and home to the silver casket containing the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Next door, the Se Cathedral — the largest church in Asia — with its massive Golden Bell.
- Late morning: Walk to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi with its stunning frescoed interiors and the Archaeological Museum inside. Continue to the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, perched on a hill with views of the Mandovi River.
- Afternoon: Drive 30 minutes to a working spice plantation in Ponda. Walk through rows of cardamom, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sit down to a traditional Goan fish curry meal served on banana leaf — the perfect introduction to Goan cuisine.
- Morning: Drive north to the beach belt. Start at Calangute Beach — the 'Queen of Beaches' — and walk the shoreline where fishing boats share the sand with sunbathers. Browse the Tibetan market for silver jewellery and cashew nuts.
- Midday: Continue to Baga Beach for lunch at a beach shack — try the Goan prawn balchão with a cold Kingfisher. Baga is the water sports hub: parasailing, jet ski, and banana boat rides are all available.
- Afternoon: Drive to Anjuna Beach — once the heart of the 1960s hippie trail, still the most characterful of Goa's beaches. Walk the rocky headland to Vagator Beach, quieter and framed by red laterite cliffs. If Saturday: explore the Saturday Night Market at Arpora — a riot of live music, food stalls, and crafts.
- Evening: Dinner at a beach shack in Anjuna as the bonfires light up the shore.
- Morning: Visit Fort Aguada — the 17th-century Portuguese fortress that once guided ships into the Mandovi River. The lighthouse (built 1864) is the oldest of its kind in Asia. Walk the ramparts for panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and Sinquerim Beach below.
- Late morning: Drive to Chapora Fort — the ruined hilltop fort made iconic by the Bollywood film 'Dil Chahta Hai'. The clamber up is rewarded with a 360° view of Vagator Beach, the Chapora River, and the jungle beyond.
- Afternoon: Drive 2 hours inland to Dudhsagar Waterfalls in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Take the jeep trail through the dense Western Ghats jungle to reach the base of the 310-metre cascade — the 'Sea of Milk'. Swim in the pool at the base (conditions permitting) and spot langurs, kingfishers, and if lucky, bison along the way.
- Morning: Drive south to Palolem Beach — a perfect crescent of white sand fringed by coconut palms, the quietest and most photogenic of Goa's beaches. Rent a kayak and paddle to the small island at the northern end, or simply sit at a beach shack with a book and a fresh lime soda.
- Late morning: Walk the Palolem market for last-minute souvenirs — spice boxes, Goan ceramics, cashew feni, and hand-painted azulejo tiles (Portuguese-style blue tiles unique to Goa).
- Afternoon: Transfer to Goa airport for the flight back to Delhi. Tour concludes on arrival.
Planning Your Goa Trip
October to March is the prime season. The weather is dry and pleasant (25–32°C), beach shacks are open, and nightlife is at its peak. Monsoon (June–September) is lush and green but many beach shacks close; however, Dudhsagar Waterfalls are at their most spectacular during the rains.
Yes, Goa is very safe for families. South Goa is quieter and more family-friendly, while North Goa has livelier beaches and markets. We tailor the itinerary to your comfort level — families with children typically prefer Palolem and Benaulim beaches in the south.
The Basilica of Bom Jesus (housing St. Francis Xavier's remains), Se Cathedral (the largest church in Asia), Church of St. Francis of Assisi, and the Archbishop's Palace are the key UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Latin Quarter of Fontainhas in Panaji showcases Portuguese-colonial architecture with colourful balconied houses.
Multiple daily flights connect Delhi (DEL) to Goa's Dabolim Airport (GOI) or the newer Mopa Airport (GOX) — the flight takes about 2.5 hours. We arrange airport transfers at both ends. The flight frequency increases during the peak October–March season.
Dudhsagar ('Sea of Milk') is a 310-metre (1,017 ft) four-tiered waterfall on the Mandovi River in the Western Ghats, about 60 km from Panaji. It is one of India's tallest waterfalls and sits within the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The jeep trail through the jungle to the falls is an adventure in itself.
Yes — Dudhsagar is actually most impressive during monsoon (July–September) when it becomes a thundering white cascade. However, jeep access may be restricted during heavy rains. We check conditions and adjust the itinerary accordingly, sometimes substituting a spice plantation visit if access is closed.
