The Karnataka Heritage: Hoysala Wonders tour is Vedantaa's deepest dive into the stone architecture of southern India. The Hoysala Empire (12th–14th century) commissioned some of the most intricately carved temples ever built, using soft soapstone (chloritic schist) that allowed artisans to achieve a level of detail impossible in granite or marble. The tour begins in Bangalore, Karnataka's garden city, exploring the Tudor-style Bangalore Palace, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, and the Victorian Lalbagh Botanical Garden. From there, it travels to the royal city of Mysore for its spectacular Indo-Saracenic Mysore Palace and Chamundi Hill. The heart of the journey lies in Hassan, gateway to the Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebidu, where soapstone walls are carved with extraordinary lace-like precision: processions of elephants, mounted warriors, dancers, musicians, and scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. The final stop is Shravanabelagola, where a 57-foot monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali (Gomateshwara), carved from a single granite block in 981 AD, crowns a hilltop with panoramic views. The tour loops back to Bangalore by private AC car, staying in 4-star and heritage hotels throughout.

- Overnight: Hassan.
- Morning: Belur (37 km from Hassan). Visit the Chennakeshava Temple, built in 1117 AD to celebrate the Hoysala victory over the Cholas. The outer walls are carved in extraordinary soapstone detail: processions of elephants, mythical Yalis, dancing figures (madanikas), musicians, and scenes from Hindu mythology. Look for the famous bracket-figure of Shilabalika (celestial maiden) and the intricate lathe-turned pillars inside the sanctum.
- Afternoon: Halebidu (16 km from Belur). Explore the Hoysaleswara Temple, the twin-temple complex with some of the finest high-relief carvings in India. The outer walls depict the Mahabharata and Ramayana in continuous narrative panels, along with processions of elephants, horses, lions, and floral scrollwork. The level of detail in the soapstone — individual beads on necklaces, folds in clothing, expressions on faces — is unparalleled in Indian architecture.
- Return to Hassan for overnight.
- Morning: Drive to Shravanabelagola (55 km from Hassan), one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in India.
- Climb the granite steps of Vindhyagiri Hill (542 steps) to view the colossal 57-foot monolithic statue of Gomateshwara (Lord Bahubali), carved from a single block of granite in 981 AD by Chavundaraya, a minister of the Ganga dynasty. The statue stands completely uncovered on the hilltop, with no roof or shelter, and is one of the largest free-standing monolithic statues in the world.
- Enjoy panoramic views of the twin lakes, fields, and the town of Shravanabelagola from the summit.
- Afternoon: Continue the drive to Bangalore (~4 hrs) and check in to the hotel.
- Overnight: Bangalore.
- Breakfast, then a private transfer to Kempegowda International Airport for your departure flight.
- Tour concludes with memories of Karnataka's grand palaces, sacred monoliths, and the timeless stone lace of the Hoysalas.
- October to March is ideal: warm, dry days with cool evenings. Monsoon (July–September) makes the Shravanabelagola climb slippery. Summers (April–May) are warm but still manageable for temple visits, especially in the early morning.
- Modest dress is required: shoulders and knees covered. You must remove footwear before entering temple premises. Carry thick socks to protect your feet from hot stone slabs, especially at Belur and Halebidu where the stone can get very hot in the afternoon sun.
- The Vindhyagiri Hill climb has 542 granite steps. It takes about 30–45 minutes at a moderate pace. There are rest shelters along the way. Carry water and go early morning to avoid the midday heat. Those with mobility concerns can take the Chandragiri Hill route (easier) or use the doli (palanquin) service available at the base.
