Punjab carries three great stories in one small state: the faith of the Sikhs, the memory of Partition and the grandeur of its princely past. This 04 night / 05 day circuit travels all three. It begins in Amritsar, founded in 1577 around the sarovar that became the Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple: you will attend the pre-dawn and evening aartis, cross the causeway to the gilded sanctum, and sit in the langar that feeds one hundred thousand people a day. Day two adds the city's modern memory: the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, the moving Partition Museum at Town Hall, a heritage walk through the old bazaars and the electric beating retreat ceremony at Wagah on the India-Pakistan border. On day three the route swings southeast through Tarn Taran and Goindwal Sahib to Sirhind, where the Fatehgarh Sahib gurudwara commemorates the young Sahibzadas and the Rauza Sharif stands as Mughal-era monuments do, and on to Anandpur Sahib beneath the Shivaliks, birthplace of the Khalsa. There, the Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and the spectacular Virasat-e-Khalsa museum fill a full morning before the road turns to Patiala: the fort-palace of Qila Mubarak, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal, Baradari Gardens and a city famous for phulkari embroidery, parandas and pegs of Patiala. Travel door to door by private AC car from Amritsar airport or station (or from Delhi with our extension), with gurudwara etiquette briefings and heritage walking guides included.

- Afternoon: Arrival at Amritsar airport or railway station and transfer to your hotel; freshen up over masala chai.
- Evening: First darshan at the Golden Temple: cross the causeway to the gilded Harmandir Sahib as the Palki Sahib procession closes the day, then eat in the langar, the community kitchen that never stops serving.
- Overnight: Amritsar.
- Morning: Pre-dawn darshan for those who wish, then the Jallianwala Bagh memorial and the Partition Museum, followed by a guided walk through the old city's katras, spice lanes and jalebi stops.
- Afternoon: Drive 45 minutes to the Wagah Border for the beating retreat ceremony: border guards, falling flags and a crowd roaring on both sides of the gate.
- Evening: Return for Punjabi dinner at a heritage dhaba or rooftop facing the Temple.
- Overnight: Amritsar.
- Morning: Depart south: stop at Tarn Taran, with its vast sarovar and shrine founded by Guru Arjan Dev, and Goindwal Sahib, site of the 84 steps of Guru Amar Das.
- Afternoon: Reach Sirhind for Fatehgarh Sahib, the shrine of the young Sahibzadas, and the Rauza Sharif of Sirhind's Mughal-era past.
- Evening: Continue to Anandpur Sahib at the foot of the Shivaliks; settle in by the river Sutlej.
- Overnight: Anandpur Sahib.
- Morning: At Anandpur Sahib: darshan at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, then the award-winning Virasat-e-Khalsa museum, where galleries of light, sound and artifact tell 500 years of Punjab's story. Optional walk up to Qila Anandgarh for valley views.
- Afternoon: Drive two hours to Patiala; evening at leisure around Baradari Gardens and the old bazaars for phulkari and Patiala juttis.
- Overnight: Patiala.
- Morning: After breakfast, explore the Qila Mubarak fort-palace complex and the mirrored Sheesh Mahal with its museum galleries, plus a stop at the famous Patiala peg lore of the old bazaar.
- Afternoon: Drop at Patiala railway station, or drive one hour to Chandigarh for airport, rail or an onward hill-station extension; Delhi drop also possible.
- Tour concludes: Or continue with our Chandigarh & Pinjore short break, or the Shimla, Chail & Kufri weekend from Chandigarh.
The route order can be reversed from Chandigarh, and a night at Bathinda's Qila Mubarak or the Harike wetlands can be added for a 6-day version. Gurudwara visits require covered heads and removed shoes; scarves and guidance are provided.

- The standard circuit starts and ends in Amritsar (airport or railway station pickup). The itinerary shown ends in Patiala with a Chandigarh or Delhi drop, which avoids backtracking; tell us your arrival city and we will set the route in the right direction.
- Covered head, removed shoes and modest dress: scarves are provided and your driver briefs you before each visit. The Golden Temple, Fatehgarh Sahib and Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib all welcome visitors of every faith.
- Yes, the beating retreat runs every evening before sunset. We time the drive to arrive early for good viewing, assist with the foreigner and VIP seating counters where applicable, and brief you on what to carry (minimal bags, water, sun protection).
- Very much so. Drives are broken into short hops, the Virasat-e-Khalsa museum is a hit with children, and langar is a memorable experience for all ages. For elders we pace the Golden Temple visit in the early morning or evening, when the marble is coolest.
