This 5-night circuit is Ladakh in its classic form - a gently ascending loop built around acclimatization, high passes and water the colour of lapis. Land at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (3,500 m) and give your body a full day to adjust in Leh. Day two circles the Sham Valley: the white-domed Shanti Stupa, the seventeenth-century Leh Palace, the gravity illusion of Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the gorge where the jade Zanskar meets the silt-brown Indus. Day three climbs Khardung La (5,359 m) - among the highest motorable roads on earth - down to Diskit Monastery and a double-humped camel ride across the Hunder sand dunes. Day four follows the wild Shyok river route to a lakeside cottage at Pangong Tso (4,350 m) for sunset; day five returns over Chang La (5,360 m) with a stop at the twelve-storey Thiksey Monastery, and day six flies home. Private SUV, ILP permits, oxygen cylinder and an experienced Ladakhi driver throughout.

- Day 1 in Leh (3,500 m) is deliberately kept free for acclimatization - rest, hydrate and avoid alcohol for the first 48 hours. An oxygen cylinder travels with the vehicle for the high passes, and the itinerary ascends gradually. Consult your doctor if you have heart or lung conditions.
- Yes - Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit for Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso. We arrange all permits and environmental fees as part of the package; just carry a valid photo ID.
- The season runs May to September, when Khardung La and Chang La are open and Pangong is at its bluest. June-August is peak; September offers clearer skies and fewer crowds.
- Only postpaid SIMs work in Ladakh (prepaid connections are disabled). BSNL and Airtel work in Leh and patchily in Nubra; Pangong has almost no signal. Carry sufficient cash - ATMs are limited to Leh and card acceptance is sparse beyond it.
- Three nights in a heated Leh hotel, one night at a luxury camp or cottage in Nubra, and one night in a lakeside cottage at Pangong - all with attached washrooms and all meals included at the camps. Stays can be upgraded to premium categories on request.
- Yes - popular add-ons include Tso Moriri and the Changthang plateau, a Hanle stargazing night, the Alchi and Lamayuru monasteries, or a rafting run on the Zanskar. Just share your dates.
