About This Yatra
Overview

This 20-night, 21-day pilgrimage is the definitive temple circuit of South India, weaving through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Begin in Bangalore, then drive to Puttaparthi, the ashram town of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, before climbing the sacred Tirumala hills to the golden Tirupati Balaji temple — the world's most-visited shrine. Continue to Chennai and the temple towns of Kanchipuram (the "City of a Thousand Temples") and Mahabalipuram, where 7th-century Pallava kings carved shore temples from living rock — both UNESCO World Heritage treasures. Follow the Coromandel coast through French Pondicherry to Chidambaram, where Nataraja performs his cosmic dance, and the basilica town of Velankanni. Travel through the Chola heartland of Kumbakonam and Trichy to Tanjore and its colossal Brihadeeswara temple. Then on to Madurai — the "Athens of the East" — with the resplendent Meenakshi Amman temple, a day excursion to the Murugan hill shrine of Palani, and onward to island-bound Rameshwaram, where Rama worshipped Shiva. Drive down the coast to Kanniyakumari, the southern tip of India where three oceans meet, relax on Kovalam's beaches, and depart from Trivandrum airport.

Good to Know
Yatra FAQs
What is the best time for a South India temple tour?
The ideal season is October to March, when the south is cool and dry — perfect for temple visits and the coastal drive. Summer (April–June) is hot, and the monsoon (June–September) brings lush green Kerala but heavy rain on the coast.
What should I wear for temple visits?
Dress modestly — shoulders and knees covered. Many temples require removing footwear, and some provide cloth wraps. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for gopuram steps and rock-cut sites.
Which are the must-see highlights of this tour?
The dawn Tirupati darshan, the UNESCO Mahabalipuram Shore Temple and Brihadeeswara at Tanjore, the gopurams of Meenakshi Madurai, the 22 wells of Rameshwaram, the ocean confluence at Kanniyakumari, and the golden beaches of Kovalam.
Can you arrange special darshan and poojas?
Yes — we assist with darshan tickets and pooja arrangements at major temples including Tirupati, Meenakshi and Rameshwaram. Requests are subject to temple rules and availability, and any special-darshan ticket costs are additional.
What should I pack for this 21-day journey?
Light cotton clothing, modest temple attire, sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, and a light shawl for air-conditioned spaces. A small bag for temple offerings is handy.
Can I extend the tour with more destinations?
Absolutely — we can add Kodaikanal or Ooty hill stations, extend the Kerala leg with Alleppey backwaters and Kochi, or add Hampi and Mysore at the start. We will tailor the programme and cost to your plans.
