Cherrapunjee, also known as Sohra, is historically recognized as one of the wettest places on Earth, receiving over 26,000 mm of rainfall in a year between 1860 and 1861. The British declared Sohra the capital of Assam in 1832, later shifted to Shillong in 1866 due to inclement weather. It was here that British Christian missionaries first came into contact with the Khasi tribal community in the early 18th century.

• Nohkalikai Falls — plunging from 1,115 feet, the world's fourth-tallest plunge waterfall, nestled amidst evergreen rainforests
• Arwah Cave — impressive limestone formations and fossils, with larger caverns and hidden nooks to discover
• Return to Shillong; overnight

• Drive to Mawlynnong Village — nestled in the East Khasi Hills, referred to as "God's Own Garden" for its remarkable cleanliness and natural beauty
• Trek to the Riwai Root Bridge — ingeniously created by guiding the roots of rubber trees to form natural, sturdy walkways over streams. A marvel of bioengineering
• Visit Sky View Point — a bamboo structure offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Bangladesh plains
• See the Balancing Rock — a large boulder resting on a much smaller rock, a natural phenomenon that has stood the test of time

• Lunch at Mawlynnong — restaurants are limited (rice, chapatis, dal, mixed veg, chicken on thali basis)
• Visit Dawki (Bangladesh Border) — the main attraction is the Umgot River with crystal-clear water. Enjoy a boat ride on wooden boats with oar men (max 3 pax per boat, life jackets available)
• Note: Road in Dawki is under renovation; potholes or broken patches can be expected
• Return to Shillong; overnight

• Begin journey towards Kaziranga National Park, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site

• Declared a National Park in 1974, it is one of the last untouched wilderness areas in eastern India — home to the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as tigers, elephants, panthers, bears, and thousands of birds

• Set off towards Kohima — the capital of Nagaland
• Kohima is the land of the Angami Naga tribe, located at an average elevation of 1,261 meters
• The name was officially given by the British as they could not pronounce the Angami name Kewhima or Kewhira (meaning "the land where the flower Kewhi grows")
• The town is located on top of a high ridge and serpentines along the mountain ranges as is typical of most Naga settlements

• Visit Kigwema — an Angami hilly village attacked by Japanese troops on 4 April 1944 at exactly 3:30 PM. See the simplicity stone memorial at the beginning of the village. The villagers still maintain their unique Angami lifestyle
• Excursion to Khonoma — the green village. An Angami-tribe warrior village known for its battles with the English and its leading role in the Naga freedom struggle. Famous for community-based conservation projects and eco-friendly tourism
• Visit the World War Cemetery — constructed in memory of officers and men who made supreme sacrifices during WWII. Beautiful epitaphs engraved in bronze on each grave. The famous inscription reads: "When You Go Home, Tell Them of Us and Say, For Your Tomorrow We Gave Our Today"
• Visit the Kohima State Museum — exhibits the vibrant culture of Nagaland through fascinating arts and artifacts. (May remain closed on Mondays or government holidays)
• Overnight in Kohima

• Visit Jakhama Village — witness the multifaceted Naga way of life. Walk through paddy fields and riverbanks where Angamis fish and farm in traditional ways, as they have for hundreds of generations
• Stop at local pigsties, fisheries, and even a snail farm
• See walls of houses riddled with bullet marks from World War II
• Note: Fishing and farming activities may not be active during dry season
• Visit Touphema Village — inhabited by the Angami Naga tribe

Jorhat is known as the tea treasure house — 'Jor' means join and 'hat' means market. The town is home to the oldest golf course in Asia and the third oldest in the world. Watching tea grow in such vast expanses is a treat for the eyes.

Majuli, assumed to be the largest river island in the world, has been the cultural capital of Assamese civilization since the 16th century. The island is formed by the Brahmaputra in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti joined by the river Subansiri in the north. A good learning center for neo-Vaishnavite philosophy, there are 22 Vaishnava Satras, the first established in the 15th century by Sankaradeva, the father of Assamese culture.

• Cross the mighty Brahmaputra River to reach the island
• Majuli's area has reduced from 1,256 sq km (1991) to 875 sq km due to soil erosion

Ziro is known as the Sequestered Paradise of Arunachal Pradesh, located at 1,500 meters. The hills are beautifully covered with bamboo and pine trees, surrounded with paddy fields. The Apatani tribe is unique — women used to practice facial tattoos, believing their beauty was so great that tattooing would prevent men from other tribes from stealing them away!

• Home to the friendly Apatani tribe — a unique fact is that women of this tribe used to practice facial tattoos as a protection measure

• See the houses of Apatani adjoining each other; interact with locals, especially the tattooed elders who still live a very traditional life
